Why Opt for Aluminum Windows for Your Home?

Blog

When choosing new windows for your home, you want to opt for a material that you can afford and which is easy to take care of over the years. Aluminum windows have some distinct advantages over other materials that you may want to consider that can make them the right choice for your home no matter its overall style and décor. Note a few of those advantages here so you know you get the right windows for your house.

Lightweight

The lighter weight of aluminum should be considered in older homes that may not be structurally able to hold the weight of wood windows. An older home's building materials may be damaged due to age and weather exposure, so that the wood around a window's frame is soft and easily damaged by added weight. The lighter weight of aluminum windows can also make them easier to install on your own if you're managing your own renovations or construction.

Easily shaped

Aluminum is easy to shape and fabricate; it can be bent around a mandrel that creates a curve or any type of angle. It's much more difficult to create these shapes with wood or vinyl. If your home has round windows or window frames that are somewhat bent or warped because of age or damage, aluminum windows can often be more readily custom made to fit than any shape. They will also then fit more snugly into those frames that are warped so you have less risk of drafts and leaks around the windows.

Little to no maintenance

Wood windows are famous for needing consistent maintenance; the wood may get soft and then warp, and a windowsill or frame then needs replacing. Chips and cracks mean sanding and filling in with wood putty. Wood windows also need consistent repainting or a fresh coat of stain so they hold their color. However, aluminum windows don't get soft and they don't expand and contract with humidity and dryness; they also don't need to be repainted over the years. If the window frame should get dented or dinged due to damage, this is usually easy enough for a repairperson to pull out or tap out.

Noise insulation

Aluminum windows are very good for noise insulation; they may more readily block sound waves than vinyl windows. If you live near a freeway or any busy area or if sound is a concern for any reason, aluminum windows can often keep your home more insulated against this sound pollution.

Building a new granny flat

We needed to get a new granny flat built, as ours was starting to look shabby and had a roof leak we couldn't stem. We knew it would need some upgraded features so that we could start renting it out for extra income. I spent a lot of time researching which features get the best rental returns and how to get the granny flat built as quickly and effortlessly as possible. I read a lot from a lot of online sources and interviewed other home owners who have new granny flats so we could get the best structure built. This blog has tips for people looking to build new granny flats for their home.
