Small Business Owner Tips: How to Secure Your Business After a Break-In

Blog

Keeping your business secure should always be top priority, especially after a break-in. If your business was broken into, follow these tips for securing the business property and keeping intruders out in the future.

Secure Your Windows

To start with, go around your property and check all of the windows. If your door wasn't broken down, this might be how the burglar gained access into your building. It is not uncommon to lock a door but forget about the windows, so double-check that all locks are working properly on your windows. If it looks like a lock was tampered with, it is time to upgrade your windows. Consult a window professional about options in regards to better locks or installing security window shutters. These can be closed at night when you leave, which will prevent someone from breaking the windows in order to get into your building.

Install High-Security Doors

After making sure your windows are secure, you then need to install high-security doors if you haven't done so already. One of the best materials to choose for your entrance doors is steel, since it is highly durable, long-lasting, and almost impossible to penetrate. Just seeing that you have steel security doors might cause a potential intruder to look the other way. There are steel security screen doors installed behind your main door, or you can get steel for the entire door. Not only are these for entrance doors, but side doors, back doors, and garage or stock room doors as well.

Consider Electronic Locks

While there are deadbolts that make it hard for an intruder to get into your building, the more experienced ones might still be able to get in. Instead of using this type of lock, consider an electronic lock. There isn't the risk of a lost or stolen key that a criminal can get a hold of, but instead unique numeric codes that need to be entered to open the door. You can program each code to have certain access, such as limiting employee access during the evenings and weekends when they shouldn't be in the building. It also makes it easy to change the codes periodically for extra protection.

In addition to these tips, also consider installing surveillance cameras and other security equipment to deter criminals from attempting to burglarise your commercial building. Just knowing you have surveillance cameras might be enough to keep them away from your business property.

We knew it would need some upgraded features so that we could start renting it out for extra income. I spent a lot of time researching which features get the best rental returns and how to get the granny flat built as quickly and effortlessly as possible. I read a lot from a lot of online sources and interviewed other home owners who have new granny flats so we could get the best structure built. This blog has tips for people looking to build new granny flats for their home.
