Is Illegal Dumping In Skip Bins Really A Problem?

Blog

If your demolition project creates the need to hire multiple skip bins (e.g. one for asbestos, one for concrete wastes and one for general demolition wastes), you might wonder whether the additional cost of covered and lockable skip bins is worth it.

Understanding how much of a problem illegal dumping in skip bins is should convince you that the extra cost is worth it.

Jakk The Skip Bin Puppy

You're mistaken if you think that old car batteries and used diapers are the only types of "trash" that may end up in your skip bin illegally. Jakk is a deformed puppy who was abandoned in a skip bin in Perth a few months back. The puppy has a bent right leg and a left leg that has only two toes. Reasons that made Jakk's owners abandon him in the skip bin are largely speculative.

However, you can rightly argue that it would have been more difficult for Jakk's owners to leave him inside the bin if the bin had been covered and locked.

The Skip Bin Man

You may never have imagined illegal dumping in your skip bin to take the form of a human being, leave alone a puppy.

An unidentified man, now nicknamed "the skip bin man" was found in an industrial skip bin used by a metal recycling facility in Victoria. It's not clear how the man ended up covered in scrap metal inside the skip bin, especially considering that he wasn't an employee of the recycling facility. What's clear is that the man had quarreled with his partner.

Perhaps the man needed a place to spend the night after the argument with his partner and the skip bin offered him just that. Or perhaps his partner organized to have him ambushed and dumped into the bin following the argument. Either way, the skip bin man might have ended up in a different place if the skip bin at the recycling facility was under lock and key.

The Skip Bin Fire

Towards the end of April, two business entities in Sydney made significant losses due to a fire outbreak. The fire is reported to have had its source in a nearby skip bin.

Perhaps an illegally dumped cigarette butt was responsible for igniting the contents of the bin in question. In such a case, a covered and locked bin might have salvaged the situation.

The three examples show just how much of a problem illegal dumping can be with your uncovered, non-lockable rental skip bin. If you're hiring a bin for a project in your future, make sure to get one that closes and locks to prevent any tampering.

Building a new granny flat

We needed to get a new granny flat built, as ours was starting to look shabby and had a roof leak we couldn't stem. We knew it would need some upgraded features so that we could start renting it out for extra income. I spent a lot of time researching which features get the best rental returns and how to get the granny flat built as quickly and effortlessly as possible. I read a lot from a lot of online sources and interviewed other home owners who have new granny flats so we could get the best structure built. This blog has tips for people looking to build new granny flats for their home.
