Own a Rural Property or Farm? Here's Why You Need a Shed

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you own a rural property or a farm, then by all means you need to install a shed, if you haven't done so already. On rural properties, sheds act as multi-purpose shelters with dynamic functions as needs arise. They are a great investment for the long term as you will always have use for such shelters. In general, you can use rural sheds for the following:

Farm produce storage

One major application of rural sheds is storing farm produce. This is applicable where you are farming on that land or nearby land. You can use your shed to store anything from hay to grain, skins or hides. A shed allows you to store such items away from the sun or rain where they might get damaged.

Farm livestock and poultry

You can also keep livestock and poultry in shed-like shelters or modified sheds in your rural property. More specifically, you can keep cattle, sheep, goats, chickens and even horses. Metal sheds are durable and will last many years even when housing your animals. Even if you previously installed the sheds for other uses, you can convert them to animal shelters if you wish.

Produce processing

Rural sheds are also often used as processing stations for farm produce. Some of the processes you can undertake in a shed include packing hay, sorting grains and packing fruits. This allows you to transport your produce, ready for direct dispatch to various destinations, without a need for any layovers.

Machinery storage

Sheds can also be used for machinery storage. Some of the machinery you can store here include grain trailers, tractors, tractor parts, trucks, lorries, etc. By keeping such machinery inside sheds, you prevent theft, vandalism and wear. If you plan on storing very large machinery, you can have your sheds built tall and wide to accommodate the equipment.

Supplies storage

Farm sheds can also be used to store supplies. This can be farm supplies such as seeds, gardening tools, fertilizer and pesticides. You can also store construction supplies here, e.g. cement mixers, cement, metal, timber, metal roofing sheets, bricks, stone, etc.

Occasional carport

If your rural property is not developed, a shed will come in handy whenever you visit and need a place to store your car, be it overnight or for a few hours. With wide bays and large doors, rural sheds are as good a carport as any.

Need a rural shed? Talk to a shed manufacturer and have them construct a custom unit for you. There are lots of options to choose from, e.g. open bays, closed bays, paved flooring, sliding doors, gable roofs, and more.

Building a new granny flat

We needed to get a new granny flat built, as ours was starting to look shabby and had a roof leak we couldn't stem. We knew it would need some upgraded features so that we could start renting it out for extra income. I spent a lot of time researching which features get the best rental returns and how to get the granny flat built as quickly and effortlessly as possible. I read a lot from a lot of online sources and interviewed other home owners who have new granny flats so we could get the best structure built. This blog has tips for people looking to build new granny flats for their home.
